Our family attempted to celebrate this important holiday by memorizing the 10 Commandments in order. We decorated with a plaque of the 10 Commandments and a sheaf of wheat as a centerpiece and we put the word "JOY" up on our mantel. I wanted to do a little more, but we were good to get those decorations up. We also played a gripping round of Bible Baseball on the front lawn.
I thought it would even be fun to set up the tent and let the kids spend the night out there. They got all snuggled in and then instead of a bedtime story, they all got to tell one bible story of their choosing. L chose Joshua. E chose her fave - Esther. Z chose ? (I can't remember. But I was really impressed at his story.) I told them all good night and gave kisses all around and went in to play on the computer thinking that I had done my motherly duty for the night and was now off the clock so to speak. Not 10 minutes later Betty comes in saying she can't sleep and Ter brings in Bo all crying that he wants his bed. Ter goes back out and starts to doze when Z says he can't sleep and wants to get in his own bed. L comes in a little emotional and says he can't sleep and he needs me to rub his back so he can calm down and fall asleep in his bed. Of course, E tells Ter that since it's just the two of them left, they might as well go in too. So much for the backyard campout. Better luck next time!
